Shout Out is a leadership program for young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds designed to enable young people to speak up for themselves and share their experiences and views on a range of topics with a variety of audiences.
It provides an opportunity for inspiring young people to develop skills in public speaking and media relations on topics they feel passionate about.
Why is it important?
A consistent message MYAN WA hears from young people and the general community is the need for opportunities for young people to have a voice and speak for themselves. This is a key objective for MYAN WA – to support young people to tell their stories and promote their views and ideas on issues they care about. MYAN WA wants young people to be understood, accurately represented and influential members of the community.
By training young people in public speaking and connecting them to speaking opportunities at a range of forums, Shout Out empowers and enables young people to be active citizens and actively promote positive perceptions of young people as respected citizens in their community.
Shout Out involves:
2 x intensive weekend workshops held in Perth
Excursions to media outlets
Join an online database of speakers, build your profile and receive requests for paid speaking opportunities.
Learn from experienced guest speakers, get support from professionals and collaborate with other young people to get your voice heard!
PLEASE NOTE: The program for 2016 has now been completed.
