Working Group
The use of intepreters in medical settings
MYAN WA has introduced working groups which aims to build knowledge and shared understanding, and take action or build advocacy on the issue of refugee and migrant young people or families concerned about interpreters not being used in medical appointments. There are a number of issues, including: young people not being offered interpreters when required or requested; young people being used as informal interpreters for friends and family, when it is not appropriate; reluctance of medical personnel to use interpreters; and a lack of awareness by the community of interpreting services.
